The Straits Times reported on August 6 that the AVA has updated food labeling laws and now requires product labels to list out food allergens  – a full month after sneezywheezy.com brought the news to you.

I’m very proud of Vicky – a great chef, a fun gal and a true allergy supermom – for beating the full-time news reporters at Media Corp.’s flagship newspaper on this story. (Check out Vicky’s July 5 post on the labeling law change here).  She was investigating a story on why the full list of ingredients, including possible allergens, were not properly labeled here (except on food imported from the West) when the AVA told her, in an interview, that changes were afoot. This scoop underscores our commitment and drive to bring the latest information on allergies to our readers.

When we set up our blog six months ago, we aimed to become a one-stop shop on everything family, fun and allergy in Singapore. We’ve come a long way, and we’d like to thank you — our readers — for helping make that happen. Your support of our blog has pushed our total page hits to over 14,000 in that short time frame. That’s a notable achievement for a niche-subject blog in Singapore.

We are also thrilled to get a steady flow of emails from readers who find our news coverage, recipes, medical Q&As and shopping tips helpful. Please continue to give us your feedback: it buoys our spirits, keeps us going, and gives us a sense of purpose and direction. We look forward to meeting more of you at our next playdate — and hearing from more still on email.
