The Rock Challenge & Carnival 2012 Singapore : Rocking good family fun (age 4 up)

Posted by Vicky on | June 28, 2012 | No Comments

The Rock School (TRS) hosts the inaugural The Rock Challenge & Carnival 2012, featuring an exciting rock climbing competition for kids, a fun bouldering carnival, free climbs for parent-child pairs, selected children’s sporting and enrichment activities, and booths for parents’ shopping pleasure among others.

The event will kick off at 9am with a fun bouldering carnival, where children as young as 4 years of age may have unlimited tries on an inflatable climbing float as well as on climbing routes—on a bouldering wall (a low height climbing wall) specially constructed for the event—of varying difficulties, which would challenge youths of all ages, before trying out top-rope climbing on a colourful high wall with cute, interesting handholds. The competition begins at 4pm with competitors from the primary schools scaling the 7m wall and the bouldering structure with climbing problems (climbers may use only selected handholds and footholds).

And that’s not all. There would also be a mini competition between allied teams made up of volunteer students and children with special needs. Fringe events, such as balloon sculpting, parent-child talks, opportunities to try out other sports and more, will keep kids and their parents entertained for the entire day too!

In collaboration with the People’s Association, The Rock Challenge & Carnival 2012 will be held on 21st & 22nd July 2012 at The Rock School @Bedok Community Centre from 9am to 9pm. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Mr Lim Swee Say will be gracing the event as guest of honour.

For immediate releaseThe team behind the The Rock Challenge & Carnival 2012 strongly believes that, in a safe and fun environment as well as with the right guidance, kids and youths could easily reap the benefits of rock- climbing. This includes bringing up their general fitness level and, more importantly, building up their character as they overcome challenges conquering a wall several times their height. What’s more, with our free parent-child climbs, kids and their parents may strengthen both bodies and family at the same time too!

About Rock climbing:

Rock climbing is an exciting sport that challenges one both physically and mentally. As climbers scale the walls, they are usually tested on their strength, endurance, agility and balance as well as mental control and determination. The sport, which has been steadily gaining popularity in Singapore for the past decade, was included in the SEA Games last year and saw our athletes bringing home medals.
