Custard at Cold Storage

It does not take much to please me – my children smiling, a cool and breezy 23 degrees, flowers, custard…. Yes, that’s right. Custard. Lots and lots of custard. It is after all the foundation for trifle, which is one of the best puddings in the world. It is the colour of liquid sunshine, and jazzes up chopped fruit to new and exciting heights. I like custard. In my life BIBAM (Before I Became A Mum) I even wrote a presentation for work on the UK’s nation custard consumption. Riveting!

Since CJ was diagnosed as having an anaphylactic allergy to eggs, I had put the thought of egg related foods to the back of my mind. Bye-bye custard. Then came the moment of complete surprise and utter joy! CJ passed his oral food challenge for eggs! He passed!  He is out growing his egg allergy. He can now eat cooked eggs! Woo Hoo CJ, and Hello custard! Looking for help with cheats trifle, I discovered something that I have repeatedly kicked myself for not finding out sooner. Canned custard has no eggs. None. Zilch. Nada.

Ambrosia Custard is EGG FREE!

Although my waist line is probably a little better for this sluggish discovery, it is with a misty eye that I hug my can of custard.

I haven’t actually got around to making my cheats trifle, yet! I will do. The first time we all tried it, it was just heated out of a can. Now we eat it the way I used to when I was a little girl, and my Mum wanted to make a quick, tasty, sunny yellow pudding!

Woo-Hoo Custard!

Moo-Maa’s Sunshine Hug in a Bowl.

4 ripe bananas (ripe but not brown)

1 can Ambrosia Custard

Gently heat the custard in a saucepan. While the custard is heating, chop the bananas. Divide chopped banana between four bowls. Pour the hot custard over the top. It is that embarrassingly speedy and easy!

A total cheats pudding, great for a Mum on The Run, possibly not dinner party fodder. However, perfect for a quick Egg Free pudding!

Moo-Maa is not some wacky make of canned custard. My daughter Boo has called my Mum Moo-Maa ever since she could talk. The name has stuck! Sorry Mum!!

Ambrosia Devon Custard in a can is available in Singapore at most Cold Storages  $4.75
